The Lord of hosts has sworn: “As I have planned,
so shall it be, and as I have purposed, so shall it
With everything going on right now, we all need to reach into our “bag of tricks” and find the coping strategies that have worked for us in the past.
I KNOW that we can all do hard things!! We’ve done them before, and we can do them again.
One of my biggest coping strategies is the use of mantras. I understand this word’s origins, and I don’t want that to be a hindrance to anyone in what I’m talking about. I’m using the word “mantra” in the sense that it is any phrase, scripture or “word from the ages” that can be said over and over in an attempt to calm our anxieties.
I am a fairly calm person, but there was a time in my life when I was so afraid that I might lose that peace I was experiencing and freak out, I kept a google doc with about 5 mantras. My heart was so heavy at that time in my life, I was afraid I might forget them so the google doc was readily available on my phone at any time.
I had them listed in order of importance to me. If the first one didn’t calm my nerves, I moved to the next and so on. Luckily for me, the first one is so powerful that it usually helped, and I didn’t have to move down my list.
I’m only sharing my first mantra today. I don’t want to overwhelm anyone!! And, the others are very personal to my situation at the time. Along with this mantra, I’ve included some scriptures that support it.
When you feel like your anxiety is about to get the best of you, sit in a quiet place, close your eyes, breathe deeply, and repeat this to yourself.
God is in control- EVERYTHING is going to be okay
Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.
In his hand is the life of every living thing and the breath of all mankind.
The Lord has established his throne in the heavens, and his kingdom rules overall.
These are just a few scriptures that support our knowledge of the TRUTH that God IS IN CONTROL. What other scriptures can you add that support our truth? What other mantras can you add?
Let’s be looking into that bag of tricks that we all have and pull out some coping strategies that have worked for us. Let’s share to help others. Share any in the comments!
